Macular Edema is a medical condition that occurs when fluid accumulates in the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including diabetes, age-related macular degeneration, or inflammation of the eye. The fluid buildup can cause the macula to swell, leading to vision problems such as blurry or distorted central vision. In some cases, macular edema can also cause a dark or empty area to appear in the center of a person’s vision. The condition is typically diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam, and treatment options may include medication, laser therapy, or surgery, depending on the underlying cause and severity of the case.
